Pre-Planning
Another way the Apalachin Fire Department conduct fire safety and prevention in the community is with Pre-plans.
- What are pre-plans?
Pre-plans are documents put together by the fire department as a means to gather relevant emergency data about a building (ie place of business or place of public gathering) in order to create a primary and secondary response plan. - What good does pre-planning do?
Pre-plans are a way for senior members of the fire department to understand critical points of a building, access points to the building, locations of hazardous materials, building construction type, water sources , mutual aid planning and many other things. - Should I have a pre-plan for my business?
Yes, along with the information gathered to assist the fire department, the pre-plans are important for the business as well. It provides a self inspection of your business’s safety and evacuation plans and provides information to the business’s leadership of what the fire department is likely to be doing when it first responds and information they may need during an emergency. Pre plans also provide a means for the community and fire department to grow their relationship for the safety of the public and the business's employees and property. - Is pre-planning the same as code enforcement?
No, the Apalachin Fire Department does not conduct code enforcement and Pre-plans are NOT a way for code enforcement to be conducted. We certainly can provide guidance or assistance with respect to a business’s emergency planning. - How do I get started with my pre-plan?
